Dr. Gertrude Kasbekar and Dr. Dinkar K. Kasbekar Scholarship Endowment

The Dr. Gertrude Kasbekar and Dr. Dinkar K. Kasbekar Scholarship Endowment, a perpetual scholarship endowment, was established in February 1994 to honor the life and memory of Dr. Gertrude Kasbekar. The policy was updated in 2022 to add her husband, Dr. Dinkar K. Kasbekar, who passed away in 2010, to the name of the scholarship to memorialize both parents by their son and daughter-in-law.

Dr. Gertrude Kasbekar and Dr. Dinkar Kasbekar met while working as research scientists at San Francisco Childrens Hospital and at Berkeley University. They relocated to the Washington, DC area where Gertrude was a cell biologist at the National Science Foundation, Dinkar was a professor of physiology and biochemistry at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. In the late 1980s the couple relocated to a home along the banks of the Corrotoman River to enjoy retirement. They gave their expertise to RCC and worked as volunteer faculty, teaching biology and chemistry to RCC students.
